Chengdu (China), March 19: The first-ever commercial charter flight from Pokhara International Airport to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, has been successfully operated.

Two years after the airport’s inauguration, the milestone flight took off on Tuesday, marking a significant step in establishing international air connectivity from Pokhara. The flight was organized under the leadership of the Pokhara Tourism Council in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Sichuan Airlines, and the Chinese Association in Nepal.

This achievement follows continuous efforts from various stakeholders, including the private sector, to launch international flights from Pokhara International Airport.

A 126-member delegation, including Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, Pokhara Tourism Council Chair Taranath Pahari, Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province Chief Maniraj Lamichhane, and Pokhara Visit Year-2025 Performance Committee Coordinator Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, traveled to Chengdu to promote tourism. The team comprised tourism entrepreneurs and media representatives.

Upon arrival at Chengdu Airport, the Nepali delegation was warmly welcomed by Nepali Consul General to China Suresh Raut, senior officials of Sichuan Province, and representatives of Sichuan Airlines.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Acharya highlighted that the successful charter flight was the result of continuous efforts by Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Pokhara Tourism Council, especially at a time when international flights from Pokhara International Airport had not yet been fully operationalized.

Additionally, the Chinese Embassy facilitated a business-to-business (B2B) discussion between tourism entrepreneurs from both countries to explore opportunities for tourism development in Pokhara.
