Baglung, Dec 18: The Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve has distributed relief compensation amounting to Rs 3.862 million to farmers affected by wildlife over the past three years.
According to the Reserve, farmers from Baglung, Myagdi, and Parbat districts have received compensation for losses caused by wild animals from the protected area. Farmers in the vicinity of the Reserve have suffered recurring damage due to attacks on domesticated animals, including horses, mules, sheep, goats, and cattle.
Sagar Subedi, a ranger at the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, stated that relief compensation worth Rs 2.492 million was provided in the fiscal year 2079/80, Rs 1.2 million in 2080/81, and Rs 1.70 million in 2081/82.
“Farmers raise a large number of livestock near the Hunting Reserve. Every year, they incur losses as wild animals attack, injure, and kill their animals. To mitigate this impact, the Reserve has been providing financial relief,” Subedi said.
In addition to livestock losses, wild animals from the Reserve frequently destroy crops grown in fields adjoining the protected area. However, the Reserve has not yet provided compensation for crop damage.
Tam Bahadur Sunar, a resident of Dhorpatan Municipality–9, said that crops such as potatoes and beans are destroyed every year. He added that wild animals, including wild boars and monkeys, damage crops, while leopards and other predators prey on sheep and goats. #nepal #dhorpatan
