Washington DC (USA), May 3: The Nepali Embassy in USA has sent 24 statues and artefacts of archaeological importance to Nepal. An American citizen Susan Bradford recently handed over these artefacts to Nepali officials in Hawaii Island amidst a program.
The artefacts handed over to the embassy staff were sent to Nepal from Hawaii on Thursday in coordination with the Department of Archaeology. According to the embassy, the idols of the thirteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries have been sent to Nepal. These sculptures are made of metal, wood, stone and bone.
“We are taking the initiative to search and send back to Nepal many such items of religious and cultural importance that have been lost from Nepal. This time American citizen Susan has contacted us and this process has been completed,” said Uttam Ghimire, the second secretary of the embassy.
Among the idols sent by air in Nepal-US coordination are Kalakuvera idol of Dhalot, Bishwarupa, Mahishasuramardini, Mahamanjushree Shakti called Mokshada, Bighnantaka Bhairava of Dhalot, Prajnaparamita idol of copper, Kinnari idol of Dhalot, Barahi idol of wood and Chamunda head, Saraswati idol of Stone.
Similarly, other statues include Manjushree Shakti, Agasthamuni, handwritten texts, and idols of Kuvera, copper kali yantra, bone Sitapati yantra, wooden phurva, iron lock, cast iron sinhamu, trishul.
