Another Nepali serving in the Russian army died, four prisoners in Ukraine

Kathmandu, Dec 20: Another Nepali citizen serving in the Russian army has died. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  Kundan Singh Nagal from western Nepal have been killed in Russia-Ukrain war. Earlier, six Nepali nationals were killed in the Russia-Ukrain war.

The ministry said that through the ambassador of Russia to Nepal, it has been requested again to send the bodies of Nepali citizens who died after joining the Russian army illegally to Nepal as soon as possible and to provide compensation to the families of the injured and the victims.

In addition, the Ministry issued a press statement today saying that it has again requested the Russian government through the Russian ambassador to not recruit Nepali citizens into the Russian army and to immediately return Nepalis who have been recruited earlier. “It is requested to inform about the number of Nepali citizens who joined the Russian army, the number of injured and their condition as soon as possible.”

Apart from those involved in government work, Russian government scholarship and professional business, ordinary citizens traveling to Russia can only travel with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Consular Service Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“If you have to travel to Russia even from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, the ministry strongly appeals to the general public not to travel only with the NOC issued by the Nepal Embassy and Consulate General in the respective countries”, the statement said.

Four Nepalis imprisoned in Ukraine

According to the statement, the Nepal government has taken serious note of the four prisoners held captive in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the government of Ukraine has been requested through diplomatic channels to release the prisoners and send them back to Nepal as soon as possible.

According to the ministry, diplomatic efforts are being made through other means including the International Committee of Red Cross for their release and return to Nepal.

The ministry said that Bibek Khatri of Bardia Rajapur-1, Siddharth Dhakal of Kavrepalanchok, Bikas Rai of Morang and Prateek Pun of  Rolpa have been imprisoned in Ukraine and is making desperate efforts for their release.
