Kathmandu, Nov 21: Nepal lost 2-0 to Yemen in the second round of FIFA World Cup and AFC qualifiers.
Nepal entered the field with the aim of winning against Yemen at the Dasharath stadium taking the home advantage, and the result was surrendered after conceding two goals in the second half.
Omar Abdullah Al Dahi and Mohammed Abdullah Al Dahi scored in Yemen’s victory. With this, Nepal suffered its second defeat in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers. Earlier, Nepal lost 4-0 against United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Before that, in the third minute of the game, Gillespie Jung Karki tried to direct the ball towards the post, but Nepal could not take advantage of the opportunity to take the lead.
In the 11th minute, Gillespie could not win a header from Dinesh’s cross from the right wing. Soon after, on the other hand, the Nepali defense was tested in Yemen’s attack. In the 26th minute, Yemen’s Hamja Ahmed’s shot from inside D-Box area was easily saved by goalkeeper Kiran.
In the 65th minute, Yemen scored a goal, but the referee gave an offside decision. Al Khadir Salim’s strike was not recognized. In the 73rd minute, Omar Abdullah Al Dahi gave Yemen the lead with a great shot from the penalty area. In the 76th minute, Ahmed Maher missed an opportunity to score from close range. He dodged two defenders of Nepal and his shot went over the bar.
Similarly, in the 87th minute, Yemen’s Nasir Al Ghawasi’s powerful shot from 35 yards away was saved by Nepal’s goalkeeper Kiran. Yemen came close to winning by scoring the second goal in the last minute. In the 90th minute, Mohammed Abdullah Al Dahi beat two defenders and scored an easy goal.
