Cabinet Meeting under PM Balendra Shah, 2026.

Kathmandu, March 28: The Balendra Shah led new government has approved a 100-point reform agenda through a cabinet meeting held on March 26, aiming to introduce wide-ranging changes in governance, public service delivery, and administrative efficiency.

The decision focuses on strengthening good governance, expanding digital services, and controlling corruption. The government expressed tribute to those who lost their lives during various movements, including the Gen-Z protests, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. It also extended gratitude to citizens for the mandate received through the general elections held on March 5.

The reform agenda prioritizes making public services faster, more transparent, and citizen-friendly. Plans include implementing a digital governance system, reducing the number of ministries, eliminating redundant structures, and enhancing accountability within the bureaucracy.

Key initiatives include establishing citizen service centres, fully digitizing services such as passports and citizenship, launching a 24-hour grievance handling system, and strengthening the effectiveness of the Hello Sarkar platform.

To curb corruption, the government has proposed forming an asset investigation committee, developing a digital asset record system, and reforming public procurement processes. It has also emphasized protecting the private sector, promoting investment, generating employment, and encouraging entrepreneurship.

The government has set priority sectors including energy, agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and tourism, with a target to deliver visible improvements within the first 100 days of implementation.

Likewise, the government has decided to ban trade unions in civil services, ban student unions from schools and universities, and ban politically motivated activities from all public sector organizations including schools, universities, among others. #nepal #balen
