Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Observes July Shaheed Dibosh 2026

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu observed “July Shaheed Dibosh 2026” with due solemnity to commemorate the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising 2024.

The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on the significance of the day. Documentaries highlighting the context and significance of the July Movement were also screened, followed by a special prayer for the departed souls of the martyrs.

A discussion session on the significance of the day was held with the participation of members of the Bangladeshi community, Bangladeshi students studying in Nepal, representatives of think tanks and research institutions, distinguished guests and Nepali youth representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman recalled the historic significance of the July Mass Uprising 2024 and paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of the July fighters. He said the 36-day uprising reflected the people’s long-standing anger against discrimination, corruption, enforced disappearances, killings, deprivation of voting rights, repression and authoritarian rule.

The Ambassador particularly highlighted the role of youth and Gen Z students as agents of change in transforming Bangladesh’s socio-political landscape and shaping the people’s democratic and economic aspirations. He expressed hope that the spirit of the July Uprising would continue to inspire Bangladesh in its pursuit of peace, justice and inclusive development.

Dr. Pramod Jaiswal, Research Director of the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE) and Guest Speaker at Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dr. Foyasal Khan, Founder and CEO of Dhaka-based think tank Policy House, and Tanvir Ahmed Tarafder, Director of the SAARC Secretariat, also addressed the programme.
