Bangladesh embassy organises art workshop

Kathmandu, Feb 21: The Embassy of Bangladesh organised an art workshop here today on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day.

Inaugurating the event, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, talked about Bangladesh’s history and said the goal of the International Mother Language Day is to give importance to the preservation of all languages.

The main theme of the workshop is ‘Love for Language and Culture.’ On the occasion Ambassador Chowdhury said this topic is connected to nationality.

Stating that many languages in the world are at present in risk of disappearing, he called on all to be aware on the need of preserving the world’s languages.

Former Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts Kiran Manandhar and Academy former member Sushma Rajbhandari, among the speakers, underscored the importance of linguistic and cultural programmes for the nation, shedding light on various dimensions of the Nepal-Bangladesh relations.

Around 40 artists prepared various art works and paintings in the day-long art workshop organised by the Embassy in collaboration with Art Boom. A documentary on Nepal-Bangladesh ties was also screened on the occasion.

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999. The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. The UN General Assembly welcomed the proclamation of the day in its resolution of 2002.

The Day is celebrated in recognition of the sacrifices made by the Bangladeshis to establish Bangla language as their national language.  RSS
