Baniya, Thapa, Pun elected presidents of NC Bagmati, Province 1, Lumbini

HETAUDA: Indra Bahadur Baniya has been elected the President of Nepali Congress (NC) Bagmati Province Committee from the first Bagmati Province Convention of the party.

Baniya received 1,085 votes from the election held on Sunday. Baniya’s rival Jagdishwor Narsingh KC got 927 votes, according to Election Officer Keshav Kafle.

The election committee said that 13 votes were declared invalid. For the election of the province committee president, re-election was held on Sunday as no candidate bagged at least 50 per cent of the total votes.

In the first phase, Baniya and KC had got 992 votes and 877 votes, respectively.

Prior to the election on Sunday, the third candidate of the president, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, had announced his backing to leader Baniya.

Thapa elected NC Province 1 President

Uddhav Thapa has been elected the President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Province 1 Committee by defeating his contender Gururaj Ghimire.

From the voting held Saturday, Thapa was elected the Province Committee President by securing 844 votes against his contender Ghimire’s 840 votes.

Likewise, Tanka Prasad Rai and Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi were elected to the post of vice-president while Umesh Thapa and Bhupendra Rai made to the post of general secretary.

Similarly, Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar, Khadga Fagoo and Binod Kumar Basnet trio got elected to the post of assistant general secretary, the Nepali Congress Morang District Committee said.

Counting of votes for other posts is ongoing.

Pun wins in Lumbini provice

Amar Singh Pun Magar has been elected as President of Lumbini Province. He defeated Bharat Shah by 85 votes. According to election results, Pun secured 852 votes while Shah earned 767 votes.

Pun was close to leader Ram Chandra Poudel while Shah was from party President Sher Bahadur Deuba panel.

However, Deuba affiliated candidates have won 4 states while Poudel panel have won 2 states. According to published resultes, Deuba panel has won in Province 1, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Poudel panel has won in Gandaki and Lumbini.

The results of Province 2 has not come yet.
