Bomjon sent to jail for pretrial detention in money laundering case

Ram Bahadur Bomjon

Sarlahi, May 27: Controversial spiritual leader Ram Bahadur Bomjon, also known as Ramlal Bomjon and widely referred to as the “Little Buddha,” has been sent to jail for pretrial detention in connection with a money laundering case.

The Sarlahi District Court ordered his detention, following a ruling by judge Jiban Kumar Bhandari. Bomjon was subsequently transferred to Malangawa prison.

A case was filed against Bomjon on February 17, 2025 at the Sarlahi District Court under charges of money laundering. During the court proceedings, a large number of Bomjon’s followers and supporters gathered outside the court.

Previously, the same district court had sentenced Bomjon to 10 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 for the sexual abuse of a minor female disciple (referred to as an “Ani”). However, Bomjon had appealed the decision to the Janakpur High Court, which overturned the district court’s verdict and acquitted him on March 19, 2025, leading to his release from prison.

Despite the acquittal in the previous case, Bomjon has now been jailed again in relation to the money laundering charges. #nepal #Bomjon #littlebuddha
