‘Building big but service minimal’

Banke, Oct 4 : Naraina rural municipality-based Laxmanpur primary health post which was constructed in more than a decade has come across myriads of problems.

Though it was agreed to complete the construction in 18 months, the three-storied building took more than a decade to come to a final shape.

No one has paid attention on managing drinking water and electricity and doctors and medicines in the health post.

In lack of medicines and doctors the villagers have yet to receive effective services from the health post. The building of the health post is big but the service is in limbo.

The rural municipality and district public health office have remained indifferent in arranging doctors and medicines in the health post, locals blamed.

Mohammad Tairab Rai said there was no easy access of electricity and water in the newly-constructed building. “There is no availability of electricity and water. Access to medicines and doctors are a far cry”, he added.

Daily 40-50 patients come to the health facility but there is no option but to refer the patients to other hospitals, he said.

In lack of basic technology and human resource, local patients are compelled to go to Nepalgunj sub-metropolis or India for general medication.

The building was constructed at the cost of Rs 34 million.
