Kathmandu, Oct 17 : The Council of Ministers has given authority to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Iswar Pokharel to sign the ‘China Provision of Military Assistance Grant to Nepal.’

The decision was taken by the cabinet meeting today, according to Minister for Information and Communications Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota.

Likewise, the government decided to constitute talks team led by Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Nawaraj Dhakal to attend the 4th meeting of the Nepal-Bangladesh Commerce Secretary level Technical Committee. The meeting is taking place in Kathmandu on October 22 and 23.

Speaking at the Thursday briefing about the cabinet decisions, Government Spokesperson Baskota said Chinese President Xi Jinping’s two-day state visit to Nepal was a grand success. “Aside from political success, the visit has become successful in carving out a path to country’s economic prosperity. Its impact will be long term,” he said.

The signing of 20-point memorandum of understanding is testimony to the multi-faceted importance of the visit, he said, adding that President Xi’s visit should be taken as a success politically and diplomatically and as targeting development.

The visit has further strengthened friendly relations between Nepal and China, and would support the government’s goals of realizing ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis’, he said.

The MoUs and agreements signed between Nepal and China during President Xi’s visit have opened doors for Nepal’s access to sea, airway and transport.
