Kathmandu, Mar 5: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Chairman of IME Group, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has launched Nepal’s largest paper industry in Mahottari district.
Named Nepal Pulp and Paper Industries Pvt. Ltd. (previously Everst Paper Mill), this is IME Group’s first venture into the paper manufacturing sector, expanding beyond its existing businesses in finance, tourism, automobiles, information technology, and energy.
The industry aims to reduce Nepal’s increasing paper imports while creating local employment opportunities. Currently, the project has an investment of over Rs 2 billion, with IME Group and other Nepali investors contributing to its establishment. Located in Ramnagar, Gaushala Municipality-1, Mahottari, the foundation for the industry was laid in 2078 BS, and production officially commenced in Poush 2081 BS.
The official inauguration of the industry is scheduled for Wednesday, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attending the event. The plant is expected to replace imports and generate significant employment opportunities in Nepal.
Nepal consumes nearly 150,000 metric tons of paper annually. Due to the absence of large-scale paper industries, the country heavily relies on imports for various paper products, including notebooks, photocopy paper, toilet paper, and tissue paper.
With the establishment of this industry, Nepal aims to produce about 30% of its total paper demand in the first year. The company has pledged to use local raw materials and manpower to manufacture high-quality paper products domestically. #nepal #paper
