Butwal, July 22: The CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Chet Narayan Acharya has been appointed the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province. Earlier, he submitted his claim to be the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province.
He submitted the claim to the Chief Minister with the signatures of the majority of MPs before the state chief Amik Sherchan on Monday.
According to the consensus forged in the Centre, Acharya submitted the claim with the signatures of 56 MPs from Nepali Congress and UML. In Lumbini province, which has 87 MPs, 44 are needed to reach the majority.
On Sunday, the provincial chief Sherchan called to submit the claim to the post of Chief Minister by 6:30 pm on Monday.
Sources say that Mr Acharya was believed to be close ally of CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel. In Lumbini provice, two leaders Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Shankar Pokhrel have been vying for the power grab.
Many believed that former Chief Minister and Parliamentary Party Leader Leela Giri would be Chief Minister. But UML General Secretary Pokhrel played a key role to appoint Chet Narayan as Province Chief Minister. #uml #nepal
