KATHMANDU: The government of China has decided to provide additional 1.6 million doses of vaccine against coronavirus.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said that an additional 1.6 million doses of vaccine would be provided Nepal as a grant.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Ambassador Yanqi as saying, “China will continue to support Nepal in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.” Ambassador Yanqi informed the Prime Minister that China has decided to vaccinate Nepal against an additional 1.6 million doses of COVID-19.
Twice before, China had provided a total of 1.8 million doses of vaccine as a grant.
Meanwhile, the former KP Sharma Oli government had decided to purchase nearly 4.5 million doses of China’s Sinopharm Verocell vaccine in an “undisclosed amount”.
Government of China is providing Nepal Sinopharm’s Verocell vaccine which is WHO approved covid-19 vaccine.
