Kathmandu, Oct 2: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case in a special court against nine people, including the incumbent secretary and the managing director of Nepal Telecom, on charges of corruption in the purchase of the National Payment Gateway.
A case has been filed against nine people including the then secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the then chairman of the National Information Technology Center Sanjay Sharma. The National Payment Gateway purchased six years ago with the connivance and planning of the then Executive Director of the National Information Technology Center has not yet been used.
The commission has also filed a corruption case against the then executive director of the center Pranita Upadhyay, the then deputy executive director of the center and currently the managing director of Nepal Telecom Sunil Paudel, deputy director Safal Shrestha.
The Commission has found corruption in the purchase of National Payment Gateway with the connivance of Madhu Kumar Marasini, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, then Assistant Director of the Center Ramesh Prasad Pokharel, Account Officers Nim Bahadur Wali and Ram Bahadur Budha, Computer Engineer Ramsharan Gayak.
The Commission has decided to fine ex-Secretary Sharma, Telecom Managing Director Paudel, Budha, Pokharel and Secretary Marasini for the embezzlement of Rs. 23.27 crore. Similarly, the
