Kathmandu, Aug 4: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has clarified that it may conduct further investigation on the 100 kg gold smuggling case.
Following the instructions of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the CIB has started process of investigating the case in terms of organized crime and international crime.
Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar informed that CIB will start investigation after the necessary file is available from Revenue Investigation Department (RID).
On Srawan 3, the RID recovered approximately 100 kg of gold, which was confiscated by RID from outside of Tribhuvan International Airport’s custom office.
The Department itself was investigating the incident with the help of a Nepal Police. So far, 18 people have been arrested for their involvement in the incident.
Navraj Dhungana, Director General of RID, said that a phase of investigation has been done by the department and further investigation in the matter will be done by the CIB after discussing with the attorney general’s office.
Yesterday evening, Prime Minister Dahal, in a discussion with the head of the security agency along with the Home Minister and related officials, instructed the CIB to investigate the matter further.
In the said discussion, it was pointed out that the department has concluded a phase of investigation and the need to conduct further investigation by the CIB in the rest of the economic crimes including organized crime.
