Cinema halls in Kathmandu, which were closed after the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic, reopened on Sunday following COVID-19 safety rules.
The cinema halls have come into operation since Sunday after the district administration offices gave permission to open them by abiding by health protocols.
With the opening of cinema halls, the films whose screening was previously halted because of closure of the halls were re-released.
Now, cinema halls in Kathmandu are showing Nepali films Kathaputali, Chapali Height-3, Allu Arjun’s south Indian film Pushpa, Hollywood film Spider Man: No Way Home and Japanese superhero film My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission. Even though the films were released in the hall, the number of moviegoers is negligible.
According to owner of cinema halls, the number of audience watching the movie in the hall on Sunday was very low. Most of the cinemas including QFX cinemas and Big movie are releasing Hollywood film The King’s Man and South Indian film Khiladi from Monday.
According to Roshan Adiga, CEO of QFX chain, the audience’s enthusiasm for watching the movie in the cinema hall on Sunday was very low. On average, only 15 to 20 per cent of viewers watched the film in the QFX halls, he added.
