Classification of Gen Z movement injuries in progress

Kathmandu, Dec 19: The government has expedited the process of classifying individuals injured during the Gen Z demonstrations held on September 8 and 9.

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the process has been accelerated in line with the procedure endorsed by the Council of Ministers on December 8, with the objective of providing livelihood support and financial assistance based on the nature and severity of disabilities sustained during the protests.

According to the Secretariat of Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, District Administration Offices will submit recommendations for classification, which will subsequently be certified by the Ministry of Health and Population.

As per the approved procedure, a technical committee coordinated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Health will assess and classify the injured individuals based on the degree of disability.

The injured have been categorized into four groups: minor, moderate, serious, and very serious. Under the scheme, individuals classified as seriously injured will receive a monthly allowance of Rs 9,000, while those with very serious injuries will be provided a monthly livelihood allowance of Rs 18,000. Similarly, individuals with moderate injuries will be eligible for a monthly allowance of Rs 4,000.

The Ministry of Home Affairs noted that, under the proactive initiative of Home Minister Aryal and in consideration of public sentiment, concerned authorities have been instructed to fast-track the classification process.
