‘Government committed to develop climate change projects based on national priorities’



Lalitpur, Feb 25: Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, has said the government was committed to develop national priorities project for climate change.

Launching ‘Capacity Building and Strengthening System’ for implementation of integrated results management framework of Green Climate Fund here today, Minister Thakuri mentioned that national priorities climate change projects would enhance adaptation capacity against climate risk.

The contribution of National Trust for Nature Conservation in the context of lessening climate change impacts is laudable. I am hopeful that the Trust will play significant role as the recognized body of Green Climate Change and Adaptation Fund.”, he shared.

Minister Shahi stressed the need of connecting sustainable finance network with national policies and projects like nationally determined contributions, national adaptation projects and sustainable strategy. “Millions of dollars is required for effective implementation of climate adaptation policy and projects. International collaboration and access of climate funds is indispensable for the same”, he argued.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Dipak Kumar Kharal shared that capacity should be development on study, research and technology development based on science and technology, not only in training and human resources development.

“Attention should be paid on capacity development of overall institution and system, not only of individuals. Activities should be carried out to achieve maximum benefits while developing a project”, he opined. Likewise, Member-Secretary of National Trust for Nature Conservation, Dr Naresh Subedi, expressed commitment to carryout activities in order to achieve results by increasing capacity of stakeholders by fulfilling the responsibilities.

Chief of Climate Change Management Division, Dr Maheshwor Dhakal, stressed the need of paying attention on national and international relations while operating projects while Chief of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Om Prakash Bhattarai, laid emphasis on the need of bringing ‘Green Climate Fund’ related projects by increasing capacity as our necessities could be fulfilled easily while bringing big projects.#nepal #climate change #rss
