Kathmandu, April 29: A committee formed to investigate granting and renewing of license of privately-held arms submitted its report to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Monday.
Receiving the report, Home Minister Lamichhane said the suggestions and recommendation of the committee would be implemented.
A four-member committee had been formed on March 28 under coordination of Joint-Secretary of the Home Ministry, Rajendra Dev Pandey, to submit a report with recommendations on preventing misuse of arms by individuals and implement the order of the Supreme Court to that regard.
The Committee had suggested and recommended about criteria of licensed weapons with individuals, revisions to be made in laws, activities to be done in archive management, and action to be taken those involved in arms-related incident, according to the Home Minister’s Secretariat.
The committee was formed from Home Minister-level decision after licensed weapon was found with a body guard of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain at the premises of the Supreme Court on March 18. The license was issued from the District Administration Office, Jhapa.
The report mentions that the license could not be granted as per the existing law to the arms that was found to be carried by individuals entering the SC premises. The SC had ordered to investigate into the case.
The report suggests to keep details about the weapons while granting license, their renewal and changed in ownership in digital central archive and regulate them accordingly.
