Kathmandu, Oct 21: An educational program on promoting of environmental literacy and evaluation targeting school students is being launched in Nepal to address the challenges of climate change. This program is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Education and Nagoya Sangyo University.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Nagoya Sangyo University under Japan’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Paschimanchal School in Pokhara. The MoU focuses on expanding literacy regarding carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere and environmental conditions.
This program, which is being introduced for the first time in Nepal, is already in place in various schools in Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan.
The program aims to help students understand various environmental topics, such as the impact of climate change and the rising levels of carbon dioxide. Additionally, it will promote environmental literacy and awareness of climate change impacts.
The program is being implemented in Kaski, Rupandehi, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Bardia districts of Nepal. It is beigin carried out at Paschimanchal Secondary School, Gandaki Boarding School and Amarsingh Secondary School in Gandaki Province, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Sanothimi and United Academy in Bagmati Province, and Shankarnagar Durgadatta Secondary School and Janata Secondary School in Lumbini Province.
Following the signing of the MoU, Principal of Paschimanchal School, Saroj Koirala expressed his delight at his school being part of the ‘zero carbon school program’ being implemented for the first time in Nepal with the direct involvement of the Government of Japan.
