Congress issues whip to vote for its Speaker candidate

Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress has issued a whip to its lawmakers to vote for the party’s candidate for the post of Speaker, Ishwari Devi Neupane.

Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak today issued a whip to the MPs of the party to be present, not remain neutral and to vote for the proposal to elect Neupane as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The proposal on the election of the Speaker is scheduled to be tabled, in accordance with Article 91 of the Constitution and House of Representatives Regulations, 2075 B.S., at the meeting of the House of Representatives to be held at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Nepali Congress was trying to woo CPN Maoist Centre and the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to create a conducive environment to electing Nepali Congress candidate. However, PM Prachanda was not able to convince CPN UML on this matter.

According to an agreement within ruling coalition, Chairman Prachanda had to sacrifice premiership with House Speaker and President. Now, both the top post will go to CPN UML.
