KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has handed over a 15-point memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on coronavirus prevention, treatment and control. After reaching Singha Durbar, President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba handed over the letter to Prime Minister Oli.
The Congress has pointed out the weakness of the government in handling the second phase of the pandemic in Nepal. Despite the threat of the pandemic, the government was active to organizing big rallies, pageants and inaugurating projects. Congress alleges that such activities have caused accelerating the virus.
“In the absence of scientific management of the pandemic, the infection is spreading rapidly from the infected areas to the non-infected areas in the country,” the Congress concluded.
In order to save the lives of the people from the coronavirus pandemic, the Congress has made various suggestions to make special arrangements including medical supplies and RT-PCR tests. Congress has also warned about the third wave.
Congress has demanded to ensure vaccination to keep the citizens safe from the third wave of the infection. The government has also been suggested to take diplomatic initiative for that.
The Congress has also questioned about the corruption in the government in such a difficult time. It has also demanded an investigation into the irregularities and corruption seen in the first wave of the pandemic.
The Congress has also questioned the leadership capacity of the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) in the first wave of infection and this time pandemic control.
“The leadership of the Covid Crisis Management Center has proved to be opaque, superficial and incompetent. The recurrence of extreme corruption, abuse and discrimination seen in the first wave of COVID-19 is still visible,” the letter said.
On the occasion, senior leaders from Nepali Congress were also present.
