Kathmandu, May 29: The Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2082/83 states that the number of cooperatives registered across the country reached 32,325 as of mid-March 2026.
According to the Economic Survey unveiled by the Ministry of Finance, savings worth Rs 102.57 billion have been mobilised through the cooperative sector, which has also provided direct employment to 82,216 people.
The Survey noted that a total of 19,903 cooperatives had been integrated into the Cooperative and Poverty-related Management Information System (COPOMIS) — a system developed for integrated cooperative statistics — by mid-March 2026.
As of mid-July 2024, 18,897 cooperatives had been affiliated with COPOMIS, according to the report.
The National Cooperative Regulatory Authority has been regulating Nepal’s cooperative sector and has issued operating licences to 834 cooperative organisations.
Among them, the federal government declared 23 cooperatives as problematic and liquidated three. The remaining 20 cooperatives are yet to complete asset management and liability settlement processes. #Nepal
