Kathmandu: The Patan High Court has issued an order to release rape-accused suspended national cricket team captain Sandip Lamichhane on a bail amount of Rs 2 million on Thursday.

A division bench of judges Ramesh Dhakal and Dhruba Raj Nanda issued the order to release Lamichhane on bail. After the order of Kathmandu District Court on whether to keep Lamichhane in custody for further investigation, he had appealed at Patan High Court for review.

Registrar at Patan High Court, Dhagindra Kattel, informed that Lamichhane was ordered that he could leave the Kathmandu Valley only after the permission of the District Police Office, Kathmandu.
Process to release him on bail will begin tomorrow morning.

The hearing on whether to keep Lamichhane in custody for further investigation was begun at Kathmandu District Court on November 2. The lawyers pleading in Lamichhane’s favour were arguing that the girl who accused cricketer of raping her was not minor.

A 17-year-old girl had filed a case against cricketer Lamichhane, accusing him of rape on October 31, 2022.

The District Office of Attorney, Kathmandu had filed the case against Lamichhane, demanding him imprisonment of 10 to 12 years on rape charge.

However, Lamichhane has been denying the accusation. He was held by Nepal Police from the Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6, 2022.
