KATHMANDU: The second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread rapidly and the number of new infections has reached the point of the first wave.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 5727 new infections were added across the country on Friday. A RT-PCR test of 15,391 people tested 5,657 positive.
The number of infected people added in a single day on Friday is close to the high point of the first wave. A total of 33 people died in the 24 hours. The total number of people died with coronavirus reached to 3279.
Now, a total of 38,813 people are in isolation in which 36,135 are in home isolation and 2,678 are in institutional isolation. Records show that 331 are admitted in ICUs and 115 in ventilators across the country.
According to the Ministry of Health, UK variant and double mutate have been found in Nepal so far. According to public health expert Prabhat Adhikari, the UK variant is a rapidly spreading virus in itself. “Our behavior of not following the standards of public health and crowding also helped to spread the virus. People forgot the criteria for washing hands with soap and water, wearing masks and not crowding,” the official said.
According to Adhikari, the infection has been seen in the youth and children and it has made it difficult for some of them.
