Kathmandu, Aug 23: A writ petition has been filed at Supreme Court against the vote of confidence that Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa secured recently in the Koshi Province Assembly.

Parliamentary Party leader of CPN UML in Koshi Province, Hiktam Kumar Karki, filed the writ petition at SC arguing that the confidence vote Thapa secured as CM was unconstitutional. He made defendant to Koshi Province Chief Parshuram Khapung and Chief Minister Thapa.

The SC has scheduled to hear the petition on Thursday, according to SC spokesperson Bimal Paudel.

Karki argued in the petition that it was unconstitutional to count the vote of Assembly Chair as well for deciding confidence motion in Koshi Province Assembly on August 21.

He demanded the SC that it issued mandamus order in his favour paving way for his appointment as Chief Minister as per Article 168 (3) because Thapa had not won floor test as per constitution.
