The ruling CPN (Unified Socialist) has decided to allow the MCC agreement table in the parliament, ignoring their previous stance.
A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee held on Saturday decided not to approve the agreement in status quo but to allow to table the agreement for discussion in the parliament, said Chief Whip Jeevan Ram Shrestha.
The CPN (U S) has taken the middle ground to save the alliance after the ruling coalition clashed over the MCC. Earlier, the UCPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (U S) had stated that they would not allow to table the MCC in the parliament. After that, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was active in dialogue with the main opposition party, the CPN-UML, to move the MCC forward anyway.
The decision to allow the MCC to be tabled was taken by the CPN (U S) following the risk of a possible alternative alliance between the UML and the Congress.
In the meeting of the Standing Committee, Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal explained 16 points about MCC.
