Curb on social network sites’ anarchy essential: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu, Feb 5: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said people were visiting the ministry with the requests to regulate the social networking sites, citing they were fueling anarchy.

Minister Gurung shared that the government was bringing the Bill designed to Operate, Use and Regulate Social Networking Sites in order to prevent anarchism and build a civilized society.

At programme organised on the convention of Press Chautari Nepal, Kathmandu District chapter, here Wednesday, Minister Gurung, also the Spokesperson of the government, stressed, “It is necessary to bring the bill related to social networking sites to build the civilized society. It does not curtail press freedom and freedom of expression at all.”

Also the Deputy General-Secretary of the CPN UML, Minister Gurung expressed the view that Press Chautari Nepal is one of the important sister organizations of the UML and such organisations should be devoted to people’s service.

He further said the Media Council Bill which is under discussion at the House of Representatives would be would be passed this year.

The Radio Nepal and Nepal Television were recently merged each for the transformation into the public service broadcasting.

Similarly, Chairperson of Press Chautari Nepal, Ganesh Basnet, argued that the bill designed to regulate social networking sites would not curtail press freedom. #social #site
