Kathmandu, Nov 14: Activists and intellects involved in the democratic movement shared their thoughts on the country’s current issues, especially the election, during a discussion organized by the Democratic Thoughts Society in Kathmandu on Friday.
Noted journalist and Prof Purushottam Dahal voiced support for holding the election, highlighting its importance in safeguarding the constitution. He stressed the need for a thorough analysis of the September 8-9 protests.
President of the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers, Laxmi Kishor Subedi, argued the Gen Z movement erupted after the political parties failed to address public frustration.
“Instead of focusing on restoration of parliament, political parties should embrace the elections,” he said. Subedi urged political parties to approach the elections with new agendas and fresh faces.
Another journalist and activist Taranath Dahal described the Gen Z movement as a historic development in Nepal’s democratic journey, one that deserves recognition.
He emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure the success of the upcoming election scheduled for March 5, 2025. “Along with the government, political parties also share the responsibility of creating an election-friendly atmosphere,” he said.
President of the Democratic Thought Society, Kulchandra Wagle, said that the society has been actively organizing discussions to promote an environment conducive for the upcoming House of Representatives election. #nepal #rss
