Kathmandu, March 27: The loan sharking (also known as ‘meter interest’) victims, who came to Kathmandu after walking for 11 days, demonstrated Monday afternoon in front of the Open Theater (Tundikhel Khulamanch).
They came from different districts of Terai-Madhes and demonstrated in front of Khulamanch gate. Although the victims tried to enter and sit there peacefully in the Khulamanch, the City Police of Kathmandu Metropolitan City blocked them entering there. The victims have also raised slogans against the mayor of Kathmandu, Balen Sah, saying that the Metropolitan Municipality has stopped them.
According to sources, the victims did not request for prior permission from the mayor and district administration office to hold a protest program in the Khulamanch. The victims raised slogans saying that they came to Kathmandu hoping to be welcomed by Mayor Shah, but Mayor Shah also stopped them from demonstrating.
Manoj Paswan, the coordinator of the struggle committee, appealed for justice and lamented over the act of the KMC police to stop them from entering the khula manch or open theatre. Even requests for permission from the District Administration Office fell to deaf ears.
Meanwhile, Mayor Shah has clarified that the KMC had requested them to stage protest from Shantibatika, Ratnapark.
