Chitwan, July 20: Dhrube, the male wild elephant notorious for terrorizing settlements in the vicinity of Chitwan National Park (CNP), has started staying inside the park.
It has been living inside Chitwan National Park after its tusks were trimmed. Last year on July 4 it killed two members of the same family.
On this July 15, the wild tusker was darted near Sukhibhar Post and its trunks cut.
A modern radio collar has been fitted on it. Information about its movement and location is being collected every 10 minutes through the installed radio collar.
A couple of days ago, although it was heading from Chitwan National Park towards near Sitamai, it turned back and reached the Chure area of the national park, informed Avinas Thapamagar, the park’s information officer.
If Dhrube is tracked entering a settlement, the Park will immediately inform the park buffer zone consumer committee, the local community forest users committees, ward office, and through them the local communities, and at the same time, have the park security team go on patrol on-site to drive them back toward the park.
There are 45 to 50 wild elephants inside the park. #nepal #rss
