Banepa, Oct 7: Drones have been used in a village located in Ward No. 12 of Panauti Municipality in Kavre to deliver food and other supplies to locals after rural roads were blocked due to heavy rains last week. An organization called We Team Nepal has teamed up with airlift technology to send food items, including rice, to Magargaon starting Sunday.
Trisha Humagai, a member of Team Nepal, mentioned that after successful testing, rice and supplies were sent to Magargaon on Sunday. More supplies are scheduled to be sent today. The organization decided to use drones to assist 85 families in the remote village who were affected by the flood and faced challenges due to blocked roads.
Humagai stated that upon learning about the 85 families in need of food and supplies, they opted to use drones until the roads are repaired. The village is experiencing shortages of food, electricity, and basic necessities. Relief supplies like rice, solar lights, salt, oil, spices, sanitary pads, and lactogen for children will be delivered via drones today.
As the road from Panauti bazaar to the village was damaged, drones were deployed from Bhumidanda in Ward No. 12. Humagai, a social activist, mentioned that drones can transport up to 65 kilograms of supplies at a time, depending on wind conditions. They aim to prioritize sending relief supplies to areas facing similar challenges.
Following last week’s landslides, the death toll in Kavre has risen to 77, with 75 individuals sustaining injuries. This accounts for 31.56% of the total casualties in last week’s disaster. Nationwide, 244 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides. In Kavre, 33 women, 28 men, nine boys, and seven girls have lost their lives, according to the District Police Office Dhulikhel. #landslide #monsoon #drones #nepal
