Kathmandu: The Election Commission has determined the number of seats to be obtained based on the votes that parties received for the proportional representation (PR) system of the November 20 General Elections.
After the counting of votes for the proportional representation system was completed, the EC has sent a letter to the respective political parties today, informing them about the seats they have won.
Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission Surya Prasad Aryal said the Office of the Chief Returning Officer of the Proportional Representation System of the election in the Commission has sent a letter determining the number of votes, percentage and number of seats obtained by the political parties for the House of Representatives and the seven Provincial Assemblies.
The EC has also recommended to ensure that at least one-third of women are represented in the parliaments.
The parties who have crossed the threshold to be recognized as national parties have been asked to recommend the name of PR members of parliament from among those in the closed list after addressing the requirement for inclusive representation.
On the basis of the closed list of proportional candidates submitted by the parties to the commission, the parties will select the PR members of parliament.
For this, the parties have been given seven days to decide for the House of Representatives and three days for the Provincial Assembly.
