KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal has dismissed the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Center registered by Sandhya Tiwari and Gopal Kirati.

A meeting of the Commission held on Tuesday rejected the registered parties of Tiwari and Kirati after the Supreme Court did not recognize the unification of the former CPN (UML) and the UCPN (Maoist Center) and maintained it as a former party.

The Commission has asked Tiwari to submit a new name for the party and said that even though her party’s election symbol has been maintained, Kirati’s party does not have a name and election symbol.

After the unification of the UML and the UCPN (MC), both the names became vacant. While registering the party in the name of the vacant CPN (Maoist Center), Gopal Kirati had kept Sickle Hammar as election symbol inside the circle, which was the election symbol of the CPN (Maoist Center).

Sandhya Tiwari, on the other hand, had placed the Sun on the hill as the party’s election symbol.
