KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has said the election commission is zeroing on its efforts to conduct the elections to the members of House of Representatives (HoR) in the stipulated date.
At a programme organized at the Office of Election Commission on Friday on the occasion of fifth Election Day, he pledged to put continuous efforts to establish the identity of the commission as the best election management body keeping intact its historical legacy and image.
Recalling the first-ever day of people’s voting in 2015 BS, the Election Commission has been marking Falgun 7 as the election day every year since 2073 BS.
Main slogan of the election this year was ‘All, ever and together in elections”. The commission has stepped up its internal preparation after the government announced the election to HOR members in two phases for coming April 30 and May 10.
“The commission is competent to conduct the election in a free, fair and impartial manner from technical and managerial aspects. The political parties should create an environment conducive for conducting election”, Thapaliya said.
However, the election commission has not sorted out the dispute of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP). Both the factions of NCP like Prachanda-Madhav and PM KP Oli-led faction have claimed their legitimacy and election symbol.
In recent times, this issue has raised doubt on being election on the stipulated time. Even the President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has continuously demanding Election Commission to sort out the party dispute.
It looks like that the Election Commission is also waiting for the verdict of Supreme Court on a case against the dissolution of House of Representatives.
