Rasuwa, Aug 25: Chinese electric vehicles brought into Nepal through Rasuwagadhi border have been stopped at Timure. Small vehicles including electric cars were stopped due to excessive mud on the road sections from Timure to Ronga Dobhan and Yangyang Pakha near Bhotekoshi bridge, Sanuvarkhu Bhir and Bolubarkhu Danda.
According to Ram Prasad Pathak, Chief Customs Officer of Rasuwa Customs Office, Timure, more than 400 new cars, jeeps and vans imported last year and in July of this year have been stopped in Timure due to excessive mud on the Syafru-Rasuwagadhi road section. It is reported that vehicles imported by MG, BYD, Kinglong and NETA companies have been stopped in Rasuwagadhi area due to the critical condition of the road.
According to the Customs Office, requests are being made to the agencies related to the road to facilitate the import and export of goods between Nepal and China by improving the road. The local residents have also demanded that the Department of Road should be serious about the road protection of the main points of import and export of goods. Locals demand that the road department should have a big equipment that can throw mud and a tipper that can carry sandy soil.
Similarly, in month of Srawan of the current financial year 2023/24, revenue of Rs.1.3 billion has been collected as customs duty from imported Chinese goods. According to custom office, revenue collection has increased by 30.26 percent over the target.
It is said that various materials such as shoes, slippers, ready-made clothes, electronic equipment, roll cloth, children’s toys etc. have been imported from China. According to the Customs Office, Chinese goods entered Nepal through 350 containers in July-August.
The checking of goods has been tightened and representatives of companies or firms who make false declarations by changing the brand of the goods they have bought have also been fined 50 percent of the additional value.
