Eleven MPs from Bagmati State choose Madhav Nepal party

HETAUDA: Eleven lawmakers from Bagmati State have left the CPN-UML and opted for the newly formed CPN (Unified Socialist) Party, led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. They formally attended the Bagmati Provincial Election Commission office in Hetauda on Tuesday and verified themself to be the member of newly formed CPN (Unified Socialist) Party.

The MPs are Rajendra Pandey, Munu Sigdel, Basundhara Humagain, Laxman Lamsal, Rajendra Man Shrestha, Parvati Silwal, Indramaya Gurung, Madhav Poudel, Basanta Manandhar, Rama Ale Magar and Kusum Kumar Karki.

According to MP Basundhara Humagain, some more MPs will be leaving CPN-UML. “We have verified in the first phase. We hope more friends will join CPN (US),” said Humagain. She claimed that the newly formed party has 21 MPs from Bagmati.

MP Humagain said that Krishna Sharma Khanal, who is also the social development minister of the state, would also verify. Khanal left the CPN-UML after Ashta Laxmi Shakya became Chief Minister. However, he has not attended the Election Office.

The Shakya-led state government has been in the minority for almost two weeks after 12 lawmakers joined the new party. With the Shakya-led government in the minority, she has to seek a vote of confidence from the state assembly.
