Everest Golf tournament in Solukhumbu

Kathmandu, Sept 25: The third Everest Golf Tournament is set for a unique opening in the Kongde Ri mountain region, which is situated at an altitude of 4250, on October 20.

Around 40 golfers from the different corporate house will play a par-3 one hole in Solukhumbu district before completing their next 17 holes at the Gokarna Golf Couse in Kathmandu on October 26. The one-hole course has been specifically prepared in the peak for the tournament with technical support from Gokarna Golf Club. About 100 amateur golfers will take part in the two phases, said the organisers.

The organisers claimed the tournament as first of its kind in terms of location. One of the purpose, the organisers claim, of organising one hole competition in the high altitude is to raise awareness about the effect of climate change on the mountains and also to help promote the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign.

Participating golfers and journalists will be flown to the tournament site via Lukla, informed the organisers. Nepal Tourism Board and Visit Nepal Year 2020 have coordinated for the event.
