Extreme heat disrupts classes in Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur, May 25: Rising temperatures in Kanchanpur District have forced several local governments to temporarily close schools as extreme heat continues to affect students and teachers.

Local authorities said the closures were necessary to protect students’ health as daytime temperatures in Kanchanpur and neighboring Kailali District have crossed 40 degrees Celsius. The missed classes will later be adjusted with regular summer vacations.

Bheemdatta Municipality has announced a three-day closure of all institutional and community schools starting Sunday. According to Education Section Chief Hari Dutta Joshi, the decision was taken considering the health risks posed by the extreme heat.

Similarly, Krishnapur Municipality has also declared a three-day holiday for schools beginning today. Meanwhile, Shuklaphanta Municipality is preparing to suspend classes for a few days while monitoring weather conditions and their impact on students.

Teachers said many students have been complaining of headaches, fatigue and difficulty concentrating in classrooms. They added that the situation has worsened because many classrooms lack functioning fans and are roofed with corrugated zinc sheets, making indoor conditions extremely uncomfortable for both students and teachers. #Nepal
