Fake Refugee Case: Fugitive defendant Ashish Budhathoki arrested



Kathmandu, June 26: Nepal Police has arrested a fugitive defendant in the case of cheating money by pretending to be a fake Bhutanese refugee and sending them to America.

According to Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal of District Police Complex Kathmandu, the police team arrested the accused Ashish Budhathoki from Mandikhatar.

SP Rijal said that the money collected by the gang was also deposited in his personal bank account. Based on this, he was on the fugitive list in the case pending in the district court in Kathmandu.

Earlier, the district attorney’s office had registered a case against 30 people including former minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Balkrishna Khand, the then sitting secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former home minister’s security advisor Dr. Indrajit Rai among others.

In the said case, the Kathmandu District Court sent 16 of the 18 arrested people to prison for preliminary investigation, while two people, Laxmi Maharjan and Tanka Gurung, were ordered to be released on bail of Rs 5 and 10 lakh respectively. Five cases including fraud, organized crime, crime against the state and embezzlement have been filed against them.
