KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma has asked the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) to play crucial role in effectively disseminating the government’s positive performance to the people while offering constructive feedback against its shortcomings.
Addressing the Third Convention of Press Centre Nepal RSS Chapter and a felicitation programme here Monday, the finance minister expressed his readiness to the roles to be played on behalf of the government to make RSS further advanced and effective institution to link the government and citizens.
“There is a debate on whether the government should run its own media house. I think institutions like RSS should play its role as the government’s spokesperson by giving constructive criticism,” Minister Sharma added.
He also pledged to make efforts to provide all possible means and resources to the RSS from the government.
Saying that regressive conspiracies were rile in different times to subvert the achievements obtained from the people’s war and people’s movements, the Maoist leader urged the media persons to raise voices against such moves.
He also recalled the tough time encountered while establishing the Press Centre Nepal.
Stating that the organisation was established from the sacrifice of martyrs like Krishnasen Ichchhuk, Sharma argued that the organisation should always be in favour of country, people and their prosperity.
On the occasion, the finance minister said that the government was advancing for the development of self-governing economy while preparing a base for the establishment of socialism as stated in the Constitution of Nepal.
During the programme, Coordinator of Press Centre Nepal Maheshwor Dahal said that Press Centre Nepal would always dedicate itself for the dignity of labour as the organisation that champions for the cause of working class people.
Dahal remarked that the working journalists in the state-owned institutions should not suffer after a change in the government leadership but added that unionism was not an exemption to labour.
Likewise, Executive Chairman of RSS Harihar Adhikari ‘Shyamal’ urged the media fraternity to work for the common goal adding that media role was crucial in every political transformation of the country.
On the occasion, Minister Sharma feted former Executive Chairman of RSS Komalnath Baral with a shawl and letter of appreciation.
Speaking at the programme, Baral said that he discharged his duty in the institution for its greater good.
In-charge of Press Centre Nepal Corporate Province Bidur Khadka, Chair of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) RSS Chapter Pabitra Guragain, Chair of Press Union Nepal RSS Chapter Mohini Mishra Risal and Central Committee Member of Press Chautari Nepal Prakash Silwal expressed their opinion in the event presided over by Press Centre RSS Chapter Chair Ratna Krishna Shrestha.
