First international conference on economics begins in Kathmandu



Kathmandu, March 28: The first international economics conference kicked off today. The ‘First International Conference on Economics, 2024 (FICE-2024)’, organized by Patan Campus in Lalitpur, will last on Friday, tomorrow.

Academic and intellectual personalities from Nepal along with India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia are participating in the conference organized under the aegis of the Economics Department of Patan Campus.

New areas such as climate change and labour migration have been added to the development of economics in the recent years.

Department Chief Raghubir Bista said the conference was organized to acquire and share innovative knowledge and preparation on the issue of development.

The theme of the conference is ‘New Emerging Dynamics on Economics’. A total of 38 research papers are being prepared on this topic and 11 technical sessions are being presented. Six sessions are being held today on the first day.

According to the organizing committee, ‘keynote speech’ by two expert speakers and a panel comprising five experts will be delivered on the occasion.

A total of 150 people are participating in the conference. Bista said that the conference aims to help gain knowledge through discussions on new development issues and help in developing clarity and foresight in policy making. “The conference will explore a new dimension to maintain economic quality and stability by adopting the development agenda with the newly created issues,” Bista said.

Economist Dr Laxman Singh Kumar appreciated the support received from various departments.
As many as 150 participants are taking part in the conference.

Bista said the conference aims to help in enhance knowledge through discussions on new development issues and help in developing clarity and foresight in policy making. “The conference will explore a new dimension to maintain quality and stability in the expansion of the economy by adopting the development agenda with the newly created issues,” Bista said.

According to him, economic slowdown, climate change, liquidity problems and declining domestic production are some of the main challenges.

On the occasion, speakers stressed the need to increase domestic production to meet the challenges in the economy and meet market demand and mitigate the impact of declining consumptions. #Nepal
