A total of five tourists lost their lives on the Annapurna Trekking route last fiscal year. The Annapurna Circuit Trek is renowned for its beauty but is also considered one of the world’s most dangerous treks, ranking as the 10th most risky globally.

According to the Annapurna Area Conservation Project (ACAP) unit’s chief Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, most of the deaths were due to high altitude sickness.

Among the deceased, one is a US citizen, an Indian, one is Briton, and two are Nepali.

The 69-year US citizen died by falling while the 35-year tourist from India succumbed to high-altitude sickness.  The Briton was found dead inside a hotel room at Meta of Narpabhumi rural municipality-2 while Hari Adhikari, 35, from Phulkharka of Ganga Jamuna rural municipality who was a porter, died of altitude sickness near the Chulubes camp of Manang Ngisyang-6.   Similarly, Dadhiram Dangi, 49, from Ghorahi sub-metropolis-9 in Dang died near the Tiliho Basecamp.  His autopsy examination report is awaited.

As said by Tourism Entrepreneurs Association Manang’s Chair Binod Gurung, it is necessary to know the nature of the weather in Manang before visiting it.  Its atmosphere needs a gradual adjustment and if it is avoided, there is a high risk of suffering high altitude sickness. #nepal #rss #trekking #annapurna
