Hetauda, Feb 6: The District Administration Office (DAO), Makawanpur, has granted naturalized Nepali citizenship identity cards to five individuals born to Nepali citizen mothers and foreign national fathers.
The citizenship identity cards were issued in the names of their mothers following the approval and publication in the Nepal Gazette of the Nepal Citizenship (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2082 BS, which amended the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 BS.
Under the revised regulations, individuals in such circumstances are eligible to receive naturalized Nepali citizenship in their mothers’ names. According to Mohan Raj Joshi, Assistant Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, citizenship was granted to five applicants who submitted the required documents in compliance with the amended legal provisions.
Among the recipients, three are residents of Nawalpur in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City–11, one is from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City–4, and another is from Raksirang Rural Municipality.
Despite having Nepali citizen mothers, the individuals had been unable to obtain citizenship identity cards for an extended period due to their fathers being foreign nationals. They had repeatedly approached the DAO seeking citizenship documentation.
Assistant CDO Joshi stated that following the amendment to the Citizenship Act, the applicants were finally granted citizenship identity cards. He added that the revised rules allow for the issuance of citizenship in the mother’s name upon sufficient proof that the father is a foreign national. #nepal #citizenship
