Flooding inundates hundreds of houses in Sunsari



Sunsari, Oct 5: The risk of floods and landslides has increased in Sunsari with the incessant rain.

As many as 1,036 houses were waterlogged in Sunsari due to flooding, the District Police Office informed. Office spokesperson, DSP Yograj Khatiwada said the rain-triggered floods have sneaked into several settlements in municipal and rural municipal areas.

He informed that people from most of the houses submerged in the flood were temporarily relocated to safer places.

As reported, 300 houses in Bhokraha, Narasingh Rural Municipality-5, 160 houses in Barahakshetra Municipality–8, and over 300 houses in Jalpapur area of Inaruwa Municipality-10 were flooded.

Likewise, some houses in Inaruwa-4, 8, 9, and 10, Ramdhuni-6, 7, and Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-5 settlements were also submerged.

Spokesperson Khatiwada said, “Most informal settlements were affected by the floods, but not to the extent of complete displacement. Security agencies are continuously monitoring the situation”.

The floods have also affected Janodaya Basic School in Inaruwa-4 and Cardio Neuro Hospital in Bhokraha.

He further informed that doctors were taken inside the hospital by boat with the help of the Armed Police Force.

The Dovan River in Barahakshetra Municipality-8 took away 45-year-old Navaraj Uraw and search operation is underway, the District Police Office said.#nepal #rss
