Pokhara, June 10: Phanindra Devkota, a member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly Parliamentary Party of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) who gave a vote of confidence to Surendra Raj Pandey, the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province by floor cross, is going to be prosecuted by that party.
Hari Bahadur Chuman, the leader of the Maoist Center Parliamentary Party informed that the action will be taken against him for violating the whip of the parliamentary party.
“We will inform the Speaker about the action”, he said, “After acting contrary to the decision of the parliamentary party, the situation has come to take action against him.” Devkata, a member of the Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP), was elected from Gorkha-2 (A) on the election symbol of the Maoist Centre.
Although the political parties are different, he has been a member of the Maoist Center’s parliamentary party in the provincial assembly. In Section 49 of the Political Party Act, two or more parties can participate in the election with a single election symbol, but only one parliamentary party will be formed in the name of the party that gets the most seats.
Meanwhile, Nepal Samajwadi Party spokesperson Krishna Sharma issued a press release and claimed that the vote of confidence given to Chief Minister Pandey by Provincial Assembly Member Phanindra Devkota is in accordance with the Constitution.
“After the election, the Election Commission gave him a certificate and identity card as the winning MP of the Nepal Samajwadi Party. Even in the records of the Election Commission, it is mentioned that he is a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Nepal Samajwadi Party. Therefore, in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly, the party used the rights given by the constitution and the law and gave a vote of confidence”, said the statement. #nepal #pokhara #gandaki #politics
