Kathmandu, Feb 23: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has stressed the need for reforms and collaboration to take advantage of Nepal’s agricultural potentials.
Speaking at the Nepal Country Investment Discussion organized here today, he said agriculture is the backbone of the economy and appropriate strategies and programmes were necessary to benefit from it.
The FNCCI President said the agriculture sector is still providing employment to a large population and has contributed significantly to the GDP, adding that Nepal could not achieve the desired success in agriculture due to issues such as limited access to finance, fragmented land ownership and outdated technology.
Stating that financial inclusion alone was not enough, Dhakal said a broader approach was needed to improve the agricultural value chain, connect farmers to the market and ensure access to capital for small and medium agriculture enterprises.
He stressed the need to increase investment in agriculture and rural infrastructure for the development of rural entrepreneurship. Dhakal also said that he was personally working to formalize remittances and expand financial services in rural areas, empowering farmers, women entrepreneurs and small businesses.
According to him, works have been carried out by establishing Nepal Development Public Limited Company under the leadership of FNCCI with the aim of investing in projects and companies to transform Nepal’s economic scenario.
Expressing gratitude to the development partners for their cooperation in Nepal’s agriculture and other development projects, FNCCI President Dhakal stressed the need for collaboration between the government and other stakeholders and the private sector for building a prosperous economy. #fncci #nepal
