Kathmandu, Feb 16: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and her Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar held a meeting in Muscat, Oman, this evening on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.
During the meeting, issues of bilateral relations, mutual benefits and related topics were discussed. Likewise, bilateral meetings, exchange of visits and mutual cooperation were also discussed.
The Commerce secretary-level meeting held in Kathmandu and the energy related meeting held in New Delhi in the recent past and their progress were reviewed at the meeting between the two foreign ministers.
On the occasion, Minister Dr Rana thanked the government of India for its support to Nepal’s energy export to Bangladesh through India as per the power trade agreement between Nepal and India.
Likewise, the trade transits between the two countries, progress achieved on water resource development and modality of cross border power trade were also discussed at the meeting.
Furthermore, they held talks about the productive discussions of the meeting of Nepal-India Intergovernmental Committee that took place in January in Kathmandu and operation of additional ports on the Indian side.
Minister Dr Rana said that the progress achieved in operation of additional ports from the Indian side will bring about positive shifts in infrastructure development and trade promotion as well as the connectivity.
They also touched upon the issue of Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project and the breakthrough made in the technical issues of the project.
On the occasion, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar thanked Dr Rana for the progress made in the Upper Arun Hydropower Project.
During the meeting, Dr Jaishankar urged to advance BIMSTEC with collaboration. Saying that Nepal has always accorded top priority to its relations to India, Minister Dr Rana stated that Nepal was always willing to cooperate with India for the mutual interests of the two countries. #nepal #india #ministers
